From travel.latimes.com: Tropical Storm Fay hit Florida Aug. 17th and decided it liked it so much there that it decided to stall and linger for a record of 9 days. The storm had crisscrossed Florida for almost a week, dumping as much as 30 inches (76 centimeters) of rain. What happens at Disney when there is a major weather disturbance? Read on-
“As Tropical Storm Fay approached Florida today, Walt Disney World Resort continued to operate normally, but will open its four theme parks an hour early, at 8 a.m. Tuesday, “to ensure our guests have opportunities to enjoy our parks and Downtown Disney offerings.”
The resort also said it would not waive cancellation or change fees for pre-booked vacation packages unless Fay is upgraded to a hurricane.
The storm policy at Walt Disney Travel Co. allows such fees to be waived on “Magic Your Way” vacations only if the National Hurricane Center issues a hurricane warning for the Orlando area or for a guest’s home within seven days of the scheduled arrival, according to spokeswoman Jacquee Polak.”
My friend’s the Collins Family were vacationing at WDW at the Pop Century Resort throughout the storm. They bravely combated the wet rain with ponchos and umbrellas and ventured to the parks everyday. When I spoke with them on the phone, they were heading to EPCOT- where they could stay in the large pavilions for a few hours at a time and stay dry. I think this is a great idea for rainy days-
I have good news and bad news, I’ll give you the good news first!
